From 1st to 3rd of May, the national coordinator of SAIPED has been attending a workshop in Bukavu on "Implication des voix des communautés et de la société civile affectées par les conflits dans la protection et la sécurisation des populations civiles à l'Est de la RDC" organized by United Nations Associations, DRC and Stimson Center of US.
Fr. Ernest view on the workshop: "This has been a great opportunity for me to participate in a such a forum which focused on how to collect information, treat it and channel that information safely. It has also been an opportunity to network with other Civil society organizations especially in the South Kivus working daily for peaceful end to decays of violence. I have been privileged to facilitate one full day session in Goma from 6th to 8th of May on the same topic to other civil society organizations in the North Kivu. We need to network to be more strongly on the ground and defeat the enemy of peace".
Sr. Angelique is awarded by the UNHCR the award of Nansen distinction for refugees. This is another great news for the affected region of LRA. Thanks sister for your work and this has saved million of lives.
Le Haut commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés (HCR) a annocé mardi que la distinction Nansen pour les réfugiés était décernée à soeur Angéglique Namaika, qui travaille dans la région isolée du nord-est de la République Démocratique du Congo (RDC) auprès de femme victimes de sevices infligés par les LRA.
On 20 May, an Ugandan LRA woman defected to the
population in Gangala na Bodio. The population welcome her and took her to the
local administrative head where she is accommodated pending the intervention of
the MORBAT/FARDC/DDRRR team tomorrow. This is the first voluntary defection
registered in the area since the defection sensitization strategy was put in
place. a Debriefing team will be sent today to Nagero and may bring back the
lady to the DDRRR transit camp
Vodacom in Niangara
Good news Niangara is now connected to Vodacom and to the world since Sunday. People who have friends there you can call and inform us because we are checking on the network if this is working well. the next village is Bangadi probably mid-May.

Most attacks have been occurring on Dungu-Faradje road in past few days. Motorbikes and more than three trucks have been looted. In one incident attackers said that they don't want to kill or attack villages. They want food and they will get the food on the road because it does not belong to anyone.
In Bas Uélé districts, there are signs of LRA camps probably LRA who have crossed from Central African Republic. Although they have camps there, there are no attacks happening there for the time being. However it is important for local people in Bas Uélé to be vigilant.

SAIPED team of Mobile Cinema has just finished one week psychosocial program in Bangadi. This program aims at reducing two symptoms: trauma and stigma among communities towards children who have returned from LRA. Next week the team will be in Ngilima for one week. This program is being realized in partnership with Discover The Journey.
